News Channel Nebraska's Timothy Hackett reported that the Jansen, Nebraska, fire crew practiced high-angle rope rescue this week at a local grain elevator, preparing for emergencies involving grain bins. Training involved ascending about 70 feet and safely lowering a dummy using rope systems.
Fire Chief Calvin Katz emphasized the importance of hands-on experience at height, calling it a “stress test” for the team. Farmers Cooperative supports the training by providing access to their facilities, helping first responders familiarize themselves with the site.
Though grain bin emergencies are rare, crews say this training is vital for readiness and safety.
