Cleveland 19's Nikki Gasiewski reported that the Medina, Ohio, fire department rescued a man trapped in a grain bin after he became buried up to his chest in corn. When crews arrived, they found the victim alert and oriented but unable to move due to the weight of surrounding grain material.
Initial attempts to dig the man out proved ineffective as corn continued filling the space. Engine 2 crews entered through a side door and used a sling to prevent deeper engulfment. Paramedics deployed a grain rescue sleeve with assistance from the Rope and Confined Space rescue team, allowing corn removal below the victim’s waist.
He was released later with no injuries reported.
