Emergency crews in Xenia, Illinois, successfully rescued a man trapped in a grain bin Thursday after a two-hour operation.
Clay County 911 received the call at about 10:19 a.m. on Aug. 27. Emergency personnel and workers entered the bin to secure the victim and stop him from sinking deeper into the grain.
Rescuers used a grain bin rescue tube system to stabilize the man, then opened the bin to drain the grain. The worker crawled out on his own at about 12:21 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital.
Others who spent extended time in the bin also received treatment as a precaution.
Ten agencies responded, including fire departments from Xenia, Salem, Iuka, Orchardville and Odin, along with Xenia police, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Hospital Ambulance Service, Clay County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, and Illinois State Police.
