Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) reported that it moved a record 2.232 million metric tonnes (MMT) of Canadian grain and grain products in February 2026, surpassing the previous February record set in 2021. The railway also recorded a new February high with 23,088 carloads, beating the five-year-old record.

“This is the second straight monthly Canadian grain record and it continues a strong start to 2026,” said Elizabeth Hucker, vice president of sales and marketing bulk at CPKC. She credited investments in the grain supply chain and customers’ expanded grain-handling capacity for driving the sustained volume growth.

CPKC began 2026 on a record pace, setting new January totals by moving 2.395 MMT and 24,688 carloads, both exceeding previous marks set in January 2023.

Over the first 30 weeks of the 2025-2026 crop year, the railway hauled more than 17.1 MMT of Canadian grain and grain products — the highest volume since the 2020-2021 record crop year.

February also saw a combined Canada-U.S. record on CPKC’s network with 46,896 carloads totaling roughly 4.501 MMT, topping prior monthly records from 2024.

The company emphasized the importance of full capacity operation by supply chain partners, including grain loading facilities and port terminals, to maintain this momentum.

CPKC’s annual Canadian grain service plan, outlining its crop year outlook, is available on its website.
