COFCO International has shipped the first large-scale cargo of Brazilian sorghum to China, opening a new trade channel between the two countries.
The Guo Yuan 26 departed from COFCO's STS11 terminal at the Port of Santos carrying about 69,000 tonnes of sorghum. The shipment received final approval from Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock before departure.
This marks the first export of Brazilian sorghum to China, made possible by a phytosanitary protocol signed by both nations in November 2024. The agreement set health and safety standards for the trade.
The cargo is expected to reach Nansha Port in Guangzhou after a 45-day voyage. COFCO Trading will handle distribution once it arrives.
The new export option gives Brazilian farmers access to China's market, creating more demand for their sorghum and providing fresh opportunities to profit from their crops.
COFCO International operates the STS11 terminal in Santos, one of Brazil's major ports for agricultural exports.
