As the 2025 crop season winds down, the USDA’s final weekly Crop Progress report highlights continued progress in harvesting and winter wheat planting across key states. The report, released November 24 by the National Agricultural Statistics Service, provides a snapshot of crop status and soil moisture conditions heading into winter.
Corn harvest is nearly complete in major producing states, with 96 percent harvested in the 18 states that accounted for 94 percent of 2024 corn acreage. States like Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska report harvests near or above 95 percent, while some southern states lag slightly behind. Cotton harvest is also advancing, with 79 percent completed in the 15 leading states.
Winter wheat planting has reached 97 percent nationally among the 18 states covering 90 percent of acreage, with emergence at 87 percent. Crop condition ratings for winter wheat remain mostly favorable, with 45 percent rated good to excellent.
Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions vary by region but generally show adequate levels, supporting winter crop establishment. Days suitable for fieldwork remain favorable in many states, allowing farmers to complete harvest and planting activities.
This report marks the conclusion of weekly crop progress updates for 2025, with the next report scheduled for early April 2026. USDA will soon begin its annual December surveys, gathering final data on harvested acreage, production, and storage, with results expected in late December and January.
The USDA encourages producers to respond to upcoming surveys to ensure accurate and comprehensive data collection.
