Norfolk Southern grain train derails in Portsmouth, Ohio

Eight cars carrying soybeans overturn at private rail yard; officials cite weather as likely cause.

10TV Web Staff reported that in the early hours of Monday morning, a Norfolk Southern train experienced a derailment at a private rail yard in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. According to Scioto County Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Mullins, eight cars from the 107-car train derailed, with three overturning completely. The derailed cars were carrying soybeans, with no hazardous materials involved. No injuries were reported, and officials confirm there is no threat to public safety. Mullins stated that the derailment is believed to be weather-related, with rail breakage due to freezing and thawing cycles likely contributing to the incident.
