KOLN's Ryan Swanigan reported on a feed truck engine fire that spread to a grain bin at a Martell, Nebraska elevator Thursday evening, prompting a response from five volunteer fire departments.
Southwest Rural Fire led the effort, with support from Hickman, Crete, Hallam, and Southeast fire departments. Crews worked to control the flames, extinguish hot spots, and remove smoldering grain. No injuries were reported, and the financial impact is yet to be determined.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office also responded to the scene. This incident highlights the importance of mutual aid agreements in rural fire protection and the potential fire hazards in agricultural facilities.
