KFDA's Madison Fisher reported that demolition work at the Skyland Grain Elevator site continues nearly four months after an explosion injured five employees and disrupted natural gas service to the city.
Skyland Grain officials say demolition of the headhouse and bins nearest to Main Street should be completed within a week. Work has also begun on the C headhouse and additional bins to the east.
The company is working with government agencies and safety experts to ensure employee and community safety. City officials report that Skyland is conducting various tests, including a water assessment of 800,000 gallons trapped in the elevator's basement.
