BASF introduced InVigor Gold L322 today, marking the first hybrid released in the company’s breakthrough canola seed innovation designed to expand U.S. canola acreage into previously unsuitable growing regions.

The new hybrid will be available for Montana growers in 2027, pending final regulatory approvals, and represents a significant advancement in canola genetics by unlocking the full potential of Brassica juncea.

Designed for challenging conditions

InVigor Gold L322 addresses a critical gap in canola production by thriving in more arid conditions with higher heat and lower organic matter soils. Field trials demonstrate the hybrid delivers consistent performance and yield stability across a wider range of growing conditions compared to traditional varieties.

The innovation helps growers succeed where canola has not traditionally fit, potentially opening new acres for the crop across the western United States.

Earlier maturity provides advantages

The hybrid features earlier maturity that allows crops to flower earlier and finish faster, making it well-suited for warmer and drier environments. InVigor Gold L322 represents the earliest maturing hybrid in the InVigor portfolio to date.

“InVigor Gold L322 represents a major step forward in helping farmers do the biggest job on Earth by expanding where canola can successfully grow in the U.S.,” said Albre Brown, Canola Marketing Manager for BASF Agricultural Solutions.

Enhanced agronomic package

Combined with native pod shatter tolerance and LibertyLink weed control technology, InVigor Gold L322 provides Montana growers with a new rotational option that adds flexibility, profitability and whole farm productivity to their operations.
