COFCO International’s Responsible Agriculture Standard gained recognition today as an accepted certification scheme under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council Feed Standard, strengthening the company’s position in supplying sustainable feed ingredients to the aquaculture sector.
The inclusion allows the COFCO Standard to serve as an accepted pathway for aquafeed mills to meet ASC’s stringent sourcing requirements. The ASC label carries significant weight in the seafood industry, requiring strict compliance from feed manufacturers regarding ingredient sourcing.
Market expansion expected
The recognition is expected to drive expansion of COFCO Standard-certified volumes in aquaculture markets, particularly in Southeast Asia and Latin America where demand for certified sustainable feed ingredients continues growing.
The COFCO Standard delivers farm-level traceability and responsibly produced commodities through environmental and social practices, including deforestation- and conversion-free sourcing. The certification helps customers reduce emissions and other environmental impacts linked to their sourced products.
Building on existing recognition
The ASC inclusion complements existing recognition of the COFCO Standard. The certification has already been independently benchmarked against the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation 2023 Soy Sourcing Guidelines and recognized by the Consumer Goods Forum’s Forest Positive Coalition as a credible approach for delivering deforestation-free supply chains.
Global expansion continues
The development supports COFCO International’s ongoing expansion of its Responsible Agriculture Standard globally, including in Asia where aquaculture serves as a key demand driver for sustainable feed ingredients.
