
U.S. export sales presented a mixed picture for the week ending May 8, 2025, with corn, sorghum, and soybean meal net sales rising, while wheat and soybeans saw declines for the current marketing year, according to a export sales report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service. However, new crop sales for wheat and soybeans were robust.
Corn net sales for the 2024/2025 marketing year totaled 1,677,200 metric tons (MT), an increase of 1 percent from the previous week and 24 percent from the prior 4-week average. Key buyers included:
- South Korea (603,300 MT, including 130,000 MT switched from unknown destinations)
- Mexico (314,200 MT)
- Japan (208,000 MT, including 200,200 MT switched from unknown destinations)
- Colombia (115,000 MT) Net sales of 508,900 MT for 2025/2026 were reported for Mexico (467,100 MT) and Honduras (41,800 MT). Corn exports for the week reached 1,411,900 MT, down 22 percent from the previous week and 20 percent from the prior 4-week average. Primary destinations were Mexico (409,600 MT), Japan (406,600 MT), and South Korea (344,300 MT).
Soybean meal net sales for 2024/2025 were 286,700 MT, up noticeably from the previous week and 53 percent above the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for:
- Unknown destinations (100,000 MT)
- The Philippines (48,500 MT)
- Venezuela (38,100 MT, including 24,000 MT switched from Panama)
- Morocco (30,400 MT, including 30,000 MT switched from unknown destinations) Net sales of 32,700 MT for 2025/2026 were mainly for Honduras (19,000 MT) and Mexico (10,800 MT). Exports of soybean meal totaled 260,100 MT, up 9 percent from the previous week but down 12 percent from the prior 4-week average. Top destinations included Vietnam (54,700 MT) and Mexico (38,300 MT).
Sorghum net sales for 2024/2025 were 54,300 MT, a 64 percent increase from the previous week and noticeably up from the prior 4-week average. Increases were reported for Spain (53,000 MT) and Japan (1,300 MT). No sorghum exports were reported for the week.
Wheat net sales for the 2024/2025 marketing year were 58,600 MT, down 16 percent from the previous week but noticeably higher than the prior 4-week average. Primary increases were for:
- Morocco (30,000 MT)
- South Korea (27,200 MT)
- The Dominican Republic (19,800 MT, including 16,000 MT switched from unknown destinations) Significant net sales of 746,200 MT for the 2025/2026 marketing year were recorded, primarily for unknown destinations (245,000 MT), the Philippines (126,000 MT), and Mexico (81,100 MT). Wheat exports totaled 371,400 MT, a decrease of 25 percent from the previous week and 24 percent from the prior 4-week average. The Philippines (139,400 MT), South Korea (64,300 MT), and Mexico (54,600 MT) were the main destinations.
Soybeans saw net sales of 282,400 MT for 2024/2025, down 25 percent from the previous week and 28 percent from the prior 4-week average. Key buyers included:
- Egypt (177,100 MT, including 115,000 MT switched from unknown destinations)
- Indonesia (83,300 MT, including 57,000 MT switched from unknown destinations)
- Mexico (55,800 MT) Reductions for unknown destinations (184,100 MT) offset some increases. For the 2025/2026 marketing year, net sales of 490,300 MT were reported, primarily for Pakistan (345,000 MT) and Mexico (145,300 MT). Soybean exports were 429,900 MT, up 66 percent from the previous week but down 14 percent from the prior 4-week average. Egypt (127,100 MT), Indonesia (93,500 MT), and Mexico (79,300 MT) were the top destinations.
Barley had no net sales reported for 2024/2025 for the week. Exports of 600 MT were destined for Japan (500 MT) and South Korea (100 MT).
The USDA report also detailed soybean oil net sales of 13,600 MT for 2024/2025, down 7 percent from the previous week but up 20 percent from the prior 4-week average, with India being a major buyer. Soybean oil exports hit 51,000 MT, a 45 percent increase from the previous week, largely shipped to India.
