U.S. soybean crushing reached 6.66 million tons in July 2026, up from 6.16 million tons in July 2025, according to data released Sunday by the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The July figure represents 222 million bushels, an 8% increase year-over-year. Crude soybean oil production totaled 2.57 billion pounds, up 6% from July 2025 and 2% from June 2026.
Refined soybean oil production hit 2.03 billion pounds in July, marking a 10% jump from the same month last year. The monthly gain from June was less than 1%.
Canola processing also showed strong growth. Mills crushed 225,468 tons of canola seeds in July, producing 184 million pounds of crude oil. Both figures were up 12% from July 2025.
Refined canola oil production reached 189 million pounds, climbing 22% from June and 8% from July of the previous year.
Not all sectors saw gains. Cottonseed refined oil production dropped to 19.0 million pounds, down 34% year-over-year. Edible tallow fell 28% to 59.5 million pounds compared with July 2025.
Inedible tallow production totaled 263 million pounds, down 4% from last year, while technical tallow came in at 80.2 million pounds, a 21% decline.
Choice white grease bucked the tallow trend, rising 7% year-over-year to 94 million pounds despite a 7% drop from June.
The USDA noted that June contained 30 days while July had 31 days, which may affect month-to-month comparisons.
