Masaki Ova reported on a fire that broke out in five grain bins due to a faulty bearing at a facility near Jamestown, North Dakota, for the Jamestown Sun. Responding to the incident on Wednesday, firefighters encountered fires starting from the grain elevator's transfer leg and spreading to connected systems.
The Jamestown Rural Fire Department deployed six units and 13 firefighters around 3:15 p.m. after reports of the bins smoking. The crew flooded the system to extinguish fires throughout the elevator and bins, which contained burning sunflowers. Despite the challenges posed by the compromised elevator leg, which prevented emptying the bins, the team managed to contain the situation without any injuries reported. Firefighters remained on scene for about four hours, and parts of the elevator will need replacement. The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
