Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) Exchange kicks off Feb. 20 in Kansas City, Missouri, bringing together grain handling and processing professionals from around the world for education, networking and product discovery.

On Sunday, Feb. 22, programming will spotlight the connection between grain merchandising and operations, with two sessions focused on improving alignment between commercial strategy and daily plant performance.

At 1:45 p.m., The Intersection of Grain Operations and Grain Merchandising panel discussion will feature six speakers in grain operations and merchandising discussing how communication, risk management and decision-making intersect to drive profitability.

At 3:45 p.m., the Innovation Station session, Grain Merchandising – Connecting Basis to Bins, will provide an interactive discussion on how basis, grain flow, timing and storage decisions directly affect facility operations. Speakers include Roger Gattis, grain merchandising specialist, and Jason Wheeler, grain merchandising specialist, both with White Commercial Corporation. The session will focus on practical terminology, storage strategies and real-world examples that connect merchandising decisions to activity inside the bins.

A Grain Merchandisers Networking event will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Expo Lounge.

“GEAPS has historically focused on grain operations, but there are so many other layers and functions to the grain industry, and grain merchandising is integral to everything,” said Bob Horvat, GEAPS International president. “This year we’re providing an opportunity to meet and mingle, compare notes, and discuss the industry in general.”
