A former egg farm north of Fort Dodge, Iowa, has been bought by Landus, which announced plans to build a grain and agronomy facility there.

Landus has purchased land and assets in Iowa located centrally between the towns of Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Badger and Clare, along highway 169.

The company said the strategic purchase of the site, which was formerly owned and operated by Sparboe Companies, sets the stage for Landus to upgrade and provide a grain and agronomy facility at this location, catering to the growing demands of farmers in the region.

The decision to invest in this facility comes in response to the feedback from local farmers for a centrally located agricultural hub enhancing their productivity, efficiency and profitability, said Matt Carstens, president and CEO of Landus.

With this purchase, Carstens said Landus demonstrates its commitment to supporting and empowering farmers and investing in their needs.

“At Landus, our focus first and foremost is on the needs of the farmer, and to provide what the farmer is asking for," said Carstens. "The decision to invest here was driven entirely by feedback from the farmers in that region who have been demanding more. We have heard them, and we are excited to bring our Landus offerings to this area and continue to put our farmer-owners at the center of everything we do."

In June 2022, Landus announced plans to invest $150 million in incremental capital spending into core grain and agronomy facilities throughout the company’s territory to modernize aging infrastructure and improve service to local farmers. It said over the next four years, it would reinvest "unprecedented amounts" into core locations to deliver the speed, space and safety that farmers expect.
