Corn use for fuel alcohol rises 10%

May consumption reaches 524 million bushels, up 5% from last year.

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses reached 524 million bushels in May 2026, up 9% from April 2026 and up 5% from May 2025, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service monthly Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production reports released July 1.

May 2026 usage included 92.0% for alcohol and 8.0% for other purposes.

Corn for fuel alcohol totaled 472 million bushels, up 10% from April 2026 and up 6% from May 2025. Corn consumed for beverage alcohol totaled 3.98 million bushels, down 7% from April 2026 but up 5% from May 2025.

Corn consumed in May 2026 for dry milling fuel production and wet milling fuel production was 92.0% and 8.0%, respectively.

Dry mill co-product production of distillers dried grains with solubles totaled 1.77 million tons during May 2026, up 11% from April 2026 but down less than 1% from May 2025. Distillers wet grains with 65% or more moisture reached 1.37 million tons in May 2026, up 6% from April 2026 and up 12% from May 2025.

Wet mill corn gluten feed production totaled 292,461 tons during May 2026, up 20% from April 2026 and up 10% from May 2025. Wet corn gluten feed with 40 to 60% moisture was 190,178 tons in May 2026, up 1% from April 2026 but down 5% from May 2025.
