The United Soybean Board has launched the Soy Farmer Support Hub, a centralized online resource designed to help U.S. soybean farmers access research-backed tools for immediate challenges they face in their operations.
The hub represents a shift for the Soy Checkoff, which typically focuses on long-term market building and production improvements three to five years out.
Three-section approach addresses farmer needs
The support hub is organized into three main categories: For Your Fields, For Your Operation, and For You. The field section includes variety selection tools, disease and insect management calculators, and guidance on newer topics like biologicals.
“Soybeans are grown in more than 30 states and navigating all the resources out there can be a full-time job,” said Tom Frisch, Soy Checkoff farmer-leader from Dumont, Minnesota. “We’re covering standard topics like planting, seeding rates, pests and diseases. But, we’re also covering newer topics like making decisions around biologicals.”
Revenue opportunities highlighted
The operational section focuses on revenue and profitability, including premiums, cost-share funding and management decisions. Don Wyss, Soy Checkoff farmer-leader from Fort Wayne, Indiana, emphasized specialty and sustainability opportunities.
“There are some concrete opportunities within the specialty and sustainability space for farmers to add revenue to their operation,” Wyss said. “Many of these income streams like high oleic soy and Farmers for Soil Health are direct checkoff investments.”
Mental health resources included
The third section addresses farmer mental health and well-being, particularly relevant during Mental Health Awareness Month in May.
“To be able to take care of your family and your farm, you have to also take care of you,” said Robb Ewoldt, Soy Checkoff farmer-leader from Davenport, Iowa.
The checkoff plans ongoing development of materials, with additional resources becoming available in coming weeks and months.
