The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) has expressed appreciation for the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) recent decision requiring Union Pacific to provide additional information on its merger application. The move aligns with the Board’s merger rules and aims to ensure a thorough review.
Since the merger proposal was announced in July 2025, NGFA has collected diverse feedback from its members. Based on this input, the association urged Union Pacific last month to supplement its filing with clearer details on how the merger would enhance competition and guarantee robust service, including explanations for measures considered and rejected.
The STB has set a February 17, 2026 deadline for Union Pacific to indicate whether it plans to refile. Any revised application would be due by June 22, 2026. The Board also clarified that this ruling should not be seen as a prediction of how it would rule on any future filings.
NGFA looks forward to ongoing dialogue with the STB and Union Pacific to ensure future submissions address concerns and deliver tangible benefits for rail customers and the agricultural supply chain.
