U.S. Grains Council (USGC) representatives attended the 12th Global Bioenergy Partnership’s Bioenergy Week in Uganda this month, strengthening efforts to promote grain-based ethanol in African markets.
Alicia Koch, USGC director of global ethanol export development, and Gbenga Apampa, regional ethanol consultant for Africa and the Middle East, participated in the event hosted by Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
“The Council’s support of Bioenergy Week highlights the organization’s commitment to renewable energy in Africa and beyond, providing a global platform to discuss ethanol’s positive impact on human health and the environment,” Koch said.
The delegation met with U.S. Ambassador William Popp and officials from Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and National Agricultural Research Organization to discuss regional market dynamics and energy needs.
“Seeing Uganda lead the way for ethanol blending in the region is inspiring – we are eager to support ethanol expansion to effectively meet climate and health objectives for the continent,” Koch added.
