Cyberattacks in the feed and grain industry are becoming more frequent, threatening to wreak havoc on the public food supply chain.

This week alone, two Midwest cooperatives, Iowa's NEW Cooperative and Minnesota's Crystal Valley, have reported being attacked by malicious software that has disrupted operations at the beginning of the fall harvest season.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) says malware distributors have gotten increasingly savvy. The bureau warns about being careful regarding what you download and click.

The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) offers a cybersecurity resource page relevant to the agribusiness industry. The page includes links to resources that may help your feed and grain business from suffering from a ransomware attack.

Highlights from NGFA

On its cybersecurity page, NGFA offers links to resources from the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA), including:

During NGFA’s virtual 49th annual Country Elevator Conference and Trade Show (CEC) in December 2020, NGFA members and cybersecurity experts explained the basics and discussed best practices for cybersecurity.
