US grain export sales show mixed results with corn leading gains

Weekly export data reveals corn sales up 3% while wheat sales decline 39% from previous week.

The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service's Weekly Export Report showed U.S. grain export sales showed mixed performance during the week ending April 9, with corn leading gains while wheat sales declined significantly from the previous week.

Corn net sales totaled 1,400,600 metric tons for the 2025/2026 marketing year, representing a 3% increase from the previous week and 14% above the prior four-week average. Japan emerged as the largest buyer with 339,400 metric tons, followed by South Korea at 333,100 metric tons and Mexico at 168,400 metric tons.

Corn exports reached 1,558,700 metric tons, though this marked a 15% decrease from the previous week and 14% below the four-week average. Mexico dominated export destinations with 469,900 metric tons, while Colombia received 181,100 metric tons and Spain took 178,800 metric tons.

Wheat sales decline sharply

Wheat net sales dropped to 100,300 metric tons for 2025/2026, down 39% from the previous week and 48% below the four-week average. Nigeria led purchases with 52,400 metric tons, followed by Vietnam at 34,800 metric tons and Japan at 29,700 metric tons.

Wheat exports totaled 312,200 metric tons, declining 16% from both the previous week and four-week average. Primary destinations included Mexico with 90,700 metric tons, Taiwan at 54,300 metric tons, and Nigeria receiving 52,400 metric tons.

Other commodities show varied performance

Sorghum net sales reached 82,900 metric tons, down 27% from the previous week but up 37% from the four-week average. China dominated sorghum purchases with 214,500 metric tons. Sorghum exports surged to 205,100 metric tons, with China receiving 204,700 metric tons.

Rice net sales jumped to 102,800 metric tons, up significantly from the previous week and 85% above the four-week average. Senegal led rice purchases at 35,000 metric tons, followed by Colombia with 26,800 metric tons.

Soybean net sales totaled 247,900 metric tons, marking a marketing-year low and representing a 16% weekly decline. Egypt topped soybean purchases with 58,100 metric tons, while Costa Rica bought 50,800 metric tons.
