
U.S. soybean crushing increased significantly in 2025, reaching 75.2 million tons, up 7% from 70.0 million tons in 2024, according to the North American Grain and Oilseed Crushings summary released by USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Crude soybean oil production in the United States rose to 29.5 billion pounds, up 7% from 27.6 billion pounds in 2024. Soybean cake and meal production increased to 55.6 million tons, up 8% from 51.6 million tons the previous year.
Canola crushing shows mixed results
U.S. canola seed crushing declined 8% to 2.2 million tons in 2025, down from 2.4 million tons in 2024. Crude canola oil production fell to 1.8 billion pounds, down 8% from 1.9 billion pounds, while cake and meal production decreased to 1.3 million tons, down 8% from 1.4 million tons.
Canadian soybean crushing data was withheld to avoid disclosing individual operations. However, Canadian canola seed crushing reached 12.7 million tons in 2025, up 2% from 12.5 million tons in 2024. Canadian crude canola oil production increased to 10.8 billion pounds, up 1% from 10.7 billion pounds.
Combined North American totals
Combined United States and Canadian soybean crushing data was partially withheld due to Canadian confidentiality requirements. Combined canola seed crushing for crude oil was 15.0 million tons in 2025, up slightly from 15.0 million tons in 2024. Crude oil production was 12.6 billion pounds, down less than 1% from 12.6 billion pounds in 2024.
The report represents a joint effort by Statistics Canada and USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service to release soybean and canola seed crushing information for both countries within one publication. U.S. soybean and oilseed crushing numbers for 2025 were previously released March 2, 2026, while Canadian data was released Feb. 25, 2026.
