Maizex Seeds, the seed division of Sollio Agriculture, has announced an $8.8 million investment to build a new seed corn processing and packaging plant at its Blenheim, Ontario facility. This state-of-the-art plant will replace the existing processing facility acquired in 2019 and is designed to enhance product quality through advanced cleaning, sizing, and packaging equipment.
“This investment supports our commitment to Canadian-grown seed corn for Canadian farmers,” said Casper Kaastra, CEO of Sollio Agriculture. The project aligns with the company’s strategy to build a national seed business offering best-in-class products adapted to Canada’s unique environment.
Maizex Seeds produces seed corn hybrids in the Chatham-Kent region, known for its long frost-free growing season and consistent moisture from its location between the Great Lakes. This environment enables the production of high-quality seed corn hybrids suited to all Canadian regions and maturity ranges.
Blake Ashton, General Manager of Maizex Seeds, emphasized the plant’s design, inspired by the company’s Tilbury facility, which focuses on efficiency and seed quality. “This investment confirms our expertise and desire to support our customers’ profitability and commercial growth,” Ashton said.
