The U.S. sorghum industry announced the first issuance of Sorghum Assurances Protocol certificates, marking a key advancement in documenting and verifying U.S. sorghum production. Developed by the United Sorghum Checkoff Program (USCP) and the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC), the protocol provides a standardized framework covering production practices, supply chain integrity, and traceability.

Building trust in global markets

“This is an important step forward for U.S. sorghum growers and the entire value chain,” said Tim Lust, USCP CEO. The certificates offer buyers and end users greater confidence in U.S. sorghum, supporting access to export markets and growth in food, feed, and fuel sectors.

Kim Baldwin, USCP Board Chair, emphasized the collaboration behind the protocol: “We’ve built a practical framework that supports producers and positions U.S. sorghum as a trusted, sustainable choice worldwide.”

Meeting evolving customer demands

Ryan LeGrand, USGBC President and CEO, noted increasing global demand for transparency: “The Sorghum Assurances Protocol helps meet that demand and reinforces the reliability and value of U.S. sorghum in international markets.”

The voluntary, industry-led program aligns with global frameworks, ensuring U.S. sorghum remains a high-quality ingredient and maintains market access amid evolving global expectations.
