USGBC conversion app smooths grain trade across the metric divide

A bushel here, a metric ton there: USGBC's conversion app wants to take the math headache out of global grain deals.

A small unit mismatch can turn into a headache fast. The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) is promoting a phone-based conversion calculator that translates common U.S. agricultural measures into metric units, targeting traders, shippers and international buyers who handle U.S. barley, corn, sorghum and coproducts.

USGBC says the application “quickly and conveniently converts grain data between English and metric units.” U.S. sellers routinely work in bushels, gallons and square feet, while overseas customers often contract, compare and receive product in metric terms. The calculator handles examples that show up across everyday commercial work: bushels to metric tons, gallons to liters and square feet to square meters. Fast, consistent conversion can reduce friction in contract discussions, vessel and facility planning, and the routine back-and-forth that sits between an offer and a load moving.

The commodity list keeps the tool in USGBC’s lane. It converts units for U.S. barley, corn and sorghum, along with related products including distiller’s dried grains. That mix puts the calculator in front of grain and feed ingredient users who already operate across measurement systems and need comparisons for tonnage, liquid volumes and facility dimensions.

The app takes a recurring conversion step out of the trade workflow and puts it in a format buyers and sellers can use on the move.
