Feed industry gathers for annual symposium

American Feed Industry AssociationThe American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) hosted its annual Liquid Feed Symposium in Kansas City, Mo., this week, bringing together professionals to address policy issues, animal nutrition science and market trends affecting the liquid feed sector.

The symposium, planned by AFIA’s Liquid Feed Committee, featured sessions on supply chain vulnerabilities, vitamin and mineral requirements for cattle, and feeding strategies. Attendees also heard weather forecasts and cattle market outlooks that will affect their operations in coming months.

“The Liquid Feed Symposium continues to be an important opportunity for our industry to come together, exchange ideas and learn from experts about the issues that directly affect their businesses,” said Leah Wilkinson, AFIA’s chief policy officer.

American Feed Industry AssociationThe event included the induction of John Bauerle into the AFIA Liquid Feed Hall of Fame. Bauerle spent his career working throughout the liquid feed sector, most recently with High Plains Feed and Custom Tech Feeds, part of the Brookover family of companies. Raised on a ranch in Amite, La., he previously served on the AFIA Liquid Feed Committee.

“John’s career reflects the kind of dedication and commitment that have helped shape the liquid feed industry into what it is today,” said Jim Sechrist, regional sales manager at ILC Resources, who nominated Bauerle.

Attendees raised $18,600 through the annual Kenny Berg Fundraiser Auction. Proceeds benefit the Kenny Berg Liquid Feed Research and Education Fund, which supports research and educational efforts that advance the industry.
