The biennial program brought together industry professionals in Minneapolis for education sessions, networking and presentations from 26 speakers, including university professors, field experts and nutritionists from the feed, pet food and feed ingredient sectors.
“This year’s participants engaged with 26 speakers from across the animal food industry,” said Yuan-Tai Hung, senior manager of research for the Institute for Feed Education and Research. “They explored the science and business behind feed and connected with peers who will help shape the future of our industry.”
The curriculum covered monogastric, ruminant and companion animal physiology and nutrition, along with the role of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals in animal diets. Sessions also addressed supplements, additives, formulation, processing, customer relations and regulatory frameworks governing animal food production.
Participants learned about related business functions, including ingredient sourcing, logistics and grain merchandising.
The program included social activities designed to expand professional networks. Attendees gathered at CHS Field on Tuesday to watch the St. Paul Saints defeat the Omaha Storm Chasers. On Wednesday, participants competed in five rounds of agriculture trivia.
The institute concluded Thursday morning with a graduation ceremony where all attendees received certificates of completion.
