The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) has released its 2024 Impacts Report, showcasing significant growth and achievements in responsible aquaculture worldwide. The report details improvements in environmental sustainability, social responsibility, feed sourcing, fish welfare, habitat protection, and workers’ rights.

In 2024, ASC certified 2,265 farms across 52 countries, a nearly 10% increase from the previous year. These farms delivered 3,981 environmental and 3,250 social improvements. ASC-certified seafood sales rose 32% to 69 million metric tonnes, reaching consumers in 121 countries. The number of ASC-labelled products increased 12% to 28,426.

The report also highlights progress in feed certification, with 22 feed mills certified across nine countries and 24 more under assessment. Fourteen active Aquaculture Improvement Projects support farms working toward certification by improving practices.

ASC Chief Technical Officer Ally Dingwall emphasized the importance of the ASC Feed Standard, now in its first full year, noting strong commitment across the value chain to reduce environmental impact and enhance fish health and community well-being.

Marking 15 years of industry transformation, ASC launched the ASC Farm Standard in 2024, uniting 11 species standards into a single framework to strengthen requirements and promote continuous improvement.

The ASC remains dedicated to supporting producers, deepening collaborations, and increasing global demand for responsibly farmed seafood.
