Five American Feed Industry Association committees traveled to Washington, D.C. last week, meeting with more than 30 congressional offices to advocate for key legislation affecting the animal food industry.

Representatives from the Equine, Pet Food, Equipment Manufacturers, Aquaculture and Global Affairs committees pushed for several priorities, including the Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development Act to modernize feed additive regulation and the Securing American Agriculture Act to strengthen supply chain reviews.

The committees also advocated for sustained staffing investments at the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and support for the Pet Food Uniform Regulatory Reform Act language in appropriations legislation.

"Our member committees play a vital role in ensuring the animal food industry's voice is heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill," said AFIA President and CEO Constance Cullman.

Forty-eight committee members participated in the advocacy effort representing the $267.1 billion animal food industry.
