Iowa corn farmers will head to their local county ISU extension offices on July 15 to elect representatives to the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, which oversees the state's corn checkoff program.
The elections will take place in districts 2, 5, 7 and 9, with eight candidates currently in the running. Any corn producer who marketed at least 250 bushels in Iowa during the previous marketing year is eligible to vote.
Candidates include Jerry Maier and Caleb Renner in District 2; Nick Helland and Eric Weuve in District 5; Darin Proffit and Karen Seipold in District 7; and Heath Greiner and David Vandenberg in District 9.
Producers unable to vote in person can request absentee ballots beginning May 21 through June 16 by contacting the Iowa Corn office.
The board, established in 1978, focuses on market development, research for new corn uses, and education about corn and its producers.
