The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) has announced plans to put forward a vote to amend its name to the U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council (USGBC). This proposed change, unveiled at the organization's recent conference in Austin, Texas, reflects the Council's expanding role in the global energy industry, particularly in ethanol and related products.
Ryan LeGrand, USGC president and CEO, emphasized the need for this change, stating, "Ethanol and related products have become part of our identity in practice, but not in name, and it is time to signal to these new audiences that we have something to offer."
The decision will be put to a vote on August 1 during the 65th Annual Board of Delegates Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. If approved, the change will require three separate amendments to the organization's bylaws, followed by a gradual implementation of updates to the Council's online presence and physical signage.
This potential rebranding marks a significant milestone for the 65-year-old organization, which previously changed its name from the U.S. Feed Grains Council in 1998. The proposed change aims to balance the Council's established brand equity with its evolving focus and future direction in the agricultural and energy sectors.
