Legacy Feed, a Keystone Cooperative feed manufacturing and swine management company, has officially commenced operations at its newly constructed feed mill in east central Indiana, serving farm operations within a 70-mile radius of Millville in Henry County. The facility aims to support local pork producers with high-quality feed and advanced swine management services.

Completed in early September, the state-of-the-art mill produced and delivered its first load of feed on September 11. The facility boasts a 1.5 million-bushel grain storage capacity and is equipped to produce 300,000 tons of pelleted hog feed annually. Legacy Feed’s combination of modern feed production and integrated swine management services is designed to help local farm families produce top-tier pork products more efficiently.

The feed mill is a result of a 2022 partnership between Signature Farms, LP and Keystone Cooperative. Keystone, the largest swine management company in Indiana, operates the mill and sees this facility as an opportunity to expand its presence and support farm diversification.

“This mill is unlike any in our area and will best serve contract swine producers who are looking for growth opportunities on their farm,” said Eric Freeman, Director of Swine and Animal Nutrition for Legacy Feed. “We are excited to build a robust team that will best support and serve our customers.”

The facility’s advanced design includes the latest pelleting technology and built-in biosecurity measures to prevent disease transfer, creating a safer and more efficient feed production environment. The new mill also strengthens the local corn market, providing farmers with a more competitive corn basis and offering diversification opportunities to enhance long-term sustainability.

Legacy Feed’s expansion has brought 25 full-time jobs to the region, with plans to continue growing its workforce. Currently, the company is hiring for a second-shift mill operator and a Class A CDL driver, offering competitive wages and benefits for those seeking careers in agriculture close to home.

The feed mill’s launch also signals Keystone Cooperative’s ongoing growth in the region, adding to its three other divisions: agronomy, energy, and grain. With this facility, Keystone aims to expand its footprint further, supporting local swine producers and strengthening the agricultural economy in east central Indiana.

“We want to help producers thrive in this region and build a foundation that supports their long-term success,” said Freeman.

The new Legacy Feed mill is set to become a key player in the region’s agricultural landscape, combining innovation and local support to boost production capabilities and economic opportunities for Indiana’s rural communities.
