Scoular has completed a $20 million expansion of its feed blending facility in Jerome, Idaho, providing dairy and beef producers in the region with enhanced options for high-quality feed. The expansion, which was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event on Thursday, adds a 120-foot-high concrete feed mill, increasing the facility’s production capacity by 35% and storage capacity by 40%.
Scoular’s CEO, Paul Maass, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation and customer service during the event. “Scoular’s mission is to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative solutions to our feed and food customers around the world,” Maass said. “This new investment is a perfect example of meeting our customers’ demands and bringing forward the ideal solutions. We are thrilled to continue to make growth investments in this important region and industry.”
The expansion brings two key new capabilities to the Jerome facility: a steamflaking process and a pellet mill. The steamflaking process improves the digestibility of corn and barley for cattle by steaming, heating, and pressing the grains into flakes, while the pellet mill produces feed pellets, which are easier to handle and offer optimal nutrition for calves and beef cattle.
Jeff Ackerman, Chief Operating Officer for Idaho-based Bettencourt Dairies, praised Scoular’s customer-focused approach. “Scoular is helping us provide the right nutritional profile to the animal at the right time,” Ackerman said. “Tailor-made feed blends are essential.”
The event also featured remarks from Scoular Chairman David Faith, Regional Manager Andy Hohwieler, Jerome City Manager Mike Williams, and Idaho Dairymen’s Association CEO Rick Naerebout, who emphasized the positive impact of the expansion on local producers. “To see a company like Scoular expand means good news for producers,” Naerebout said. “It gives producers more options for how they want to handle feed on their farms.”
Scoular’s expanded facility will continue to serve the region’s dairy and beef customers, offering custom feed blends tailored to the specific nutritional needs of livestock. The investment underscores Scoular’s ongoing commitment to the agricultural industry in Idaho and its focus on providing high-quality, innovative solutions for producers.
