Firefighters responded to an explosion at Kent Feeds in Sheldon, Iowa, early on September 21, after employees reported a blast near door No. 9 of the feed mill.
The Sheldon Fire Department arrived at 5:06 a.m. and found visible damage to the east side of a tower in the north section of the facility. Firefighters worked with employees to shut down utilities in the affected area.
O’Brien County Emergency Management Authority deployed a drone to survey the site for hot spots and assess the damage. The aerial inspection found no areas of concern within the facility.
The explosion appears to have been accidental and employees told investigators the blast occurred as they were starting up the grain dryer for daily operations.
No injuries were reported in the incident, but the incident remains under investigation.
