ABC 7 Amarillo's Matthew Watkins reported that engineers have determined the Sunray Co-Op grain elevator to be stable following Friday's explosion, allowing residents of Sunray, Texas, to return home. The cause of the explosion, which injured five people on Friday afternoon, remains under investigation. The area immediately surrounding the co-op remains closed as authorities work towards resolving the situation and fully restoring utilities in the affected areas.
Watkins also reported in a follow up that while the building poses no significant risk to the public, the City of Sunray announced that full gas power restoration is currently impossible. Officials cited the inability to access key areas needed for gas leak testing, which will remain closed until all investigations are complete.
Local agencies, including the Sunray Fire Department, Sunray Police Department, Moore County Emergency Management, and the Moore County Sheriff's Office, continue to assist at the scene to ensure efficient operations.
