Four people died in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon that closed U.S. 24 for several hours between North 60th Street and Ill. 96, reports the Herald-Whig.
Illinois State Police District 20 reports a 2007 Chevrolet 15-passenger bus driven by Gay L. Ivey, 57 of Perry, IL, was eastbound on U.S. 24, approximately one-half mile east of Ill. 96, at 3:29 p.m. and a 1996 Freightliner four-axle truck driven by Parker A. Fuller, 20, of Ursa, IL, was westbound on U.S. 24 at the same location.
State Police said the bus crossed the center line and collided head-on with the grain truck, causing the bus to catch fire.
Ivey, and three passengers — Shirley A. Gooding, 85, Dennis R. Kadow, 63, and Sally E. Stoermer, 71, all of Camp Point, IL — died as a result of the crash.
