
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service released its latest Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushings, Production, Consumption and Stocks report on March 3, revealing varied trends in oilseed processing and oil production for January 2025.
Soybean crushing reached 6.38 million tons (213 million bushels) in January, down from December's 6.53 million tons but up from 5.83 million tons in January 2024. Crude oil production totaled 2.53 billion pounds, a 2% decrease from December but an 11% increase year-over-year.
Canola seed crushing declined to 205,923 tons, down from December's 223,154 tons but slightly higher than January 2024's 203,989 tons. Canola crude oil production fell 8% month-over-month and 4% year-over-year to 160 million pounds.
Cottonseed once refined oil production showed significant growth, reaching 33.8 million pounds, up 12% from December and 34% from January 2024.
Tallow production presented mixed results. Edible tallow decreased 6% month-over-month and 2% year-over-year to 71.3 million pounds. Inedible tallow production remained relatively stable at 302 million pounds, while technical tallow increased 5% year-over-year to 115 million pounds.
Choice white grease production rose 1% from December to 102 million pounds but fell 13% compared to January 2024.
