
U.S. Class I railroads originated 26,952 grain carloads during the week ending July 11, a 2% increase from the previous week but 2% fewer than last year, according to the Agricultural Marketing Service’s weekly Grain Transportation Report.
The rail data showed an 18% increase over the 3-year average.
Average July shuttle secondary railcar bids were $100 below tariff for the week ending July 16, down $6 from last week and $169 lower than this week last year. Non-shuttle secondary railcar bids averaged $300 above tariff, up $225 from last week and $150 more than the same week last year.
Barged grain movements totaled 691,198 tons for the week ending July 18, up 3% from the previous week but down 5% from the same week last year. A total of 453 barges moved down river, five more than the previous week.
Ocean shipping saw 24 grain vessels loaded in the Gulf for the week ending July 16, 20% more than the same period last year. Within the next 10 days, 42 vessels were expected to be loaded, 17% more than last year.
Diesel fuel prices increased 33.8 cents from the previous week to $5.134 per gallon for the week ending July 20, running 132.2 cents above the same week last year.
Unshipped balances of corn and soybeans totaled 14.7 million metric tons for the week ending July 16, down 10% from last week.
