US corn export sales surge for 2025/2026 marketing year

Mexico leads purchases while overall wheat sales decline, according to USDA report.

U.S. exporters reported strong corn sales for the upcoming marketing year during the week ending August 14, with Mexico emerging as the top buyer despite reductions in current-year purchases, according to export sales data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Net sales of corn for the 2025/2026 marketing year reached 2.86 million metric tons (MT), with Mexico purchasing 749,000 MT. The report highlighted several major transactions, including a single sale of nearly 295,000 MT to Mexico for the 2025/2026 year.

Other significant corn buyers included unknown destinations (949,400 MT), South Korea (201,000 MT), Japan (187,900 MT), and Spain (187,000 MT). The USDA noted specific large transactions to South Korea (136,000 MT), Spain (132,000 MT), and unknown destinations (124,000 MT).

Meanwhile, the 2024/2025 marketing year saw net sales reductions of 27,100 MT for corn, with decreases primarily from unknown destinations, South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Mexico offsetting increases to other countries.

Wheat export sales for 2025/2026 reached 519,800 MT but declined 28 percent from the previous week and 25 percent from the prior four-week average. Major buyers included Mexico (119,500 MT), South Korea (90,500 MT), and unknown destinations (80,400 MT).

Soybean sales for 2025/2026 totaled 1.14 million MT, primarily to unknown destinations (645,000 MT), Mexico (120,100 MT), and Spain (106,000 MT). The current marketing year experienced net sales reductions of 5,700 MT.

In meat exports, pork sales reached 19,200 MT for 2025, down 9 percent from the previous week, with Mexico as the top buyer at 5,300 MT. Beef sales totaled 10,100 MT, with Japan leading purchases at 2,500 MT.

Actual exports during the reporting period showed corn shipments of 1.04 million MT, down 32 percent from the previous week, while wheat exports increased 6 percent to 360,600 MT compared to the prior week.
