The U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) commemorated three decades of partnership with Vietnam by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, establishing a framework for sustainable agricultural development and enhanced trade relations.

The agreement, signed during a conference celebrating the milestone anniversary, aims to strengthen supply chain connectivity and promote sustainability initiatives like the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol.

“Vietnam’s agricultural sector is committed to sustainable development and enhancing the competitiveness of our domestic industries,” said Hoang Trung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment. “This MoU underscores our shared determination to build a reliable, transparent, and forward-looking supply chain.”

Timothy Loh, USSEC Regional Director for Southeast Asia and Oceania, called the agreement “a pivotal moment in the long-standing relationship between U.S. Soy and Vietnam.”

The partnership has yielded significant economic benefits, with Vietnam importing an estimated 2.2 million metric tons of whole soybeans and 5.9 million metric tons of soybean meal in 2023/24. As Southeast Asia’s third-largest U.S. Soy market, Vietnam relies on these imports to support its rapidly modernizing pork, poultry, aquaculture and soybean oil industries.

The anniversary coincides with 30 years of bilateral relations between the United States and Vietnam, with agricultural trade serving as a cornerstone of economic cooperation.
