CHS has installed a new seed treatment blender at its Rockford, Washington, location, expanding the cooperative's capacity to deliver custom seed treatment blends in the Pacific Northwest. The investment is intended to position the facility to serve growers seeking tailored treatment options rather than off-the-shelf formulations.
The blender is aimed at two customer segments: cereal crop producers and specialty seed markets. For cereal growers, an important part of eastern Washington agriculture, custom blending can provide the ability to match treatment packages to specific field conditions, pest pressures, or varietal requirements. Specialty markets, meanwhile, may require formulations that standard product lines do not address.
CHS says the investment is a service differentiator in a competitive ag retail environment. The ability to deliver custom blends from a regional facility can reduce lead times and give local agronomists more flexibility in tailoring recommendations. For growers, on-site blending capacity could allow treatment decisions to respond to conditions closer to planting rather than relying on pre-mixed inventory.
CHS did not disclose the capital cost of the investment, the blender's throughput capacity, or the timeline for commissioning.
