Bartlett, a Savage Company, has officially opened its new state-of-the-art soybean processing plant in Cherryvale, Kansas. The facility, which will process up to 49 million bushels of soybeans annually, will supply sustainable soy feedstocks for vegetable oil, animal feed, and renewable transportation fuels. The plant has created more than 60 permanent jobs, contributing to the local economy alongside the jobs supported during its construction, which began in 2022.
“We are thrilled to see this world-class facility come to life, expanding markets for area soybean producers and driving economic growth in Southeast Kansas,” said Bob Knief, Bartlett President.
The grand opening, held on September 19, was attended by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, Lt. Governor and Commerce Secretary David Toland, U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, and other leaders who celebrated the facility's positive impact on jobs and local agriculture.
“This facility is far more than a soybean processing plant; it’s where community members will find good employment and renewable energy demands will be met,” said Governor Kelly.
Located on a nearly 150-acre site, the plant includes a product tank farm, grain elevators, and a multi-loop track system. The South Kansas & Oklahoma Railroad, owned by WATCO, will connect the facility to Class 1 carriers, providing easy access to highways.
Bartlett’s Cherryvale plant is positioned to play a dual role in meeting the growing demands for both food and renewable energy. "We're excited that this plant will contribute to both the feed and food industries and renewable energy markets,” said Kirk Aubry, Savage Chief Executive Officer.
The project represents a significant investment in the region and further integrates Kansas' industries of agriculture, aviation, and energy.
