The Viterra grain elevator west of Brooks near Cassils, AB, is undergoing a major expansion which will triple its grain storage capacity.
The project, which began in July, adds 20,000 metric tonnes of additional storage as well as an increase in rail car spots for loading.
Spencer Peterson, facility operations manager for the terminal, told The Brooks Bulletin that the project is on schedule and running smoothly partially due to the warm, dry fall weather.
The company has already installed two additional storage bins which will each hold 10,000 metrics tonnes of grain -- tripling total storage capacity of the terminal from 11,500 tonnes to 32,000 tonnes.
The new terminal will also have the ability to load up to 134 cars in comparison to its current 55 spots.
