NewsOn6's Sam Carrico reported that Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, cleared the final hurdle for renovating its iconic grain silo after the city council approved a right-of-way agreement with Union Pacific.
The city purchased the 60-year-old structure in 2024 to preserve it. Because the silo sits next to a federally regulated Union Pacific rail line, the city needed railroad approval to access the land during renovations.
The city awarded a construction bid in January. Phase one will focus on repainting and cosmetic improvements. Work is expected to begin within weeks. The city plans to discuss broader Rose District plaza improvements this summer.
