The North Dakota Monitor's Michael Achterling and Mary Steurer reported on a severe weekend storm that swept across North Dakota has caused extensive damage to the state's agriculture industry. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring reported widespread destruction to grain handling systems, grain bins, equipment, and irrigation systems. The loss of grain storage is estimated to be in the tens of millions of bushels.
Farmers also suffered losses to livestock, buildings, and corrals. Crop fields were shredded by high winds and hail. A grain elevator in Page was mostly destroyed.
Officials are still assessing the total damage, with hopes that federal resources may become available to assist affected farmers.
