The Gazette reported that Kurt Krauskopf, a 47-year-old farmer from Decorah, Iowa, faces multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing enough corn and soybeans to fill nearly 25 semi-trailer trucks, valued at over $175,000. Authorities say he concealed this income during his ongoing bankruptcy case.

Krauskopf turned himself in to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office on Monday and was released without posting bond. He is charged with ongoing criminal conduct, two counts of first-degree theft, and second-degree theft.

The case stems from a partnership with K&B Farms to harvest grain, during which Krauskopf reportedly took significant amounts of grain without permission. Investigations revealed he sold far more corn and soybeans than reported to the farm’s owner.

Krauskopf filed for Chapter 12 bankruptcy in 2021, reporting $971,000 in assets but $3.7 million in liabilities. Investigators found he excluded income from illegal grain sales in his bankruptcy filings. Authorities determined he stole about 19.73 semi loads of corn and 4.5 semi loads of soybeans, totaling an estimated $175,000 in profits.
