Cargill, a global leader in the agriculture industry, has announced a significant step in its Brazilian growth strategy by signing an agreement to acquire the remaining 50% stake in SJC Bionergia. This acquisition, pending regulatory approval, will give Cargill full control of the renewable energy company, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices and the Brazilian market.
Paulo Sousa, president of Cargill in Brazil, emphasized the company's continued faith in Brazilian agriculture, stating, "As Cargill celebrates 60 years of operations in Brazil, it continues to believe and invest in the country and in Brazilian agriculture. In recent years, we have invested more than R$6.8 billion in our operations."
SJC Bioenergia, founded in 2006 with Cargill as a partner since 2011, operates two agro-industrial units in Goiás, employing 4,500 people. The company processes sugarcane and corn to produce raw sugar, ethanol, corn oil, and high-protein dried distillers' grains (DDGs), while also generating electricity.
This strategic move aligns with Cargill's focus on renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. The transaction, which is subject to approval by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), represents a significant expansion of Cargill's renewable energy portfolio in Brazil.
As Cargill awaits regulatory approval, this acquisition positions the company to further strengthen its role in Brazil's renewable energy sector, supporting the country's transition to more sustainable agricultural practices.
