The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council has officially launched its Quality Samples Program in Nigeria, marking a significant step toward expanding the market for American distiller's dried grains with solubles and sorghum in one of Africa's largest agricultural markets.
A USGBC delegation led by Mohamed Salah Bouthour, deputy regional director for Africa, met with Nigeria's three largest breweries and major feed industry players earlier this month.
"Nigeria is a major producer of sorghum, but there is a significant opportunity for U.S. exports to fill a need in the country's brewing sector," Bouthour said. "Industry interest in utilizing DDGS in poultry and aquaculture diets could result in major demand."
The delegation, alongside USDA Foreign Agricultural Service staff, conducted a site visit to a plant and poultry farm where a DDGS efficiency trial is underway.
Additional meetings with a feed mill and aquaculture producer led to plans for another DDGS trial for seafood diets.
"The Council will leverage these achievements to deepen technical cooperation through specific training programs," Bouthour said, adding that trial outcomes will be showcased at Nigeria's upcoming Poultry and Feed Trade Show.
