US corn export sales surge

USDA weekly report shows Mexico, South Korea and Japan leading corn purchases while Vietnam tops cotton demand.

U.S. corn export sales jumped to 1.23 million metric tons during the week ending September 11, while cotton bookings increased 44 percent from the previous week, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest export sales report.

Mexico led corn purchases with 419,200 metric tons, followed by South Korea with 201,000 tons and Japan with 194,500 tons. Spain rounded out the major buyers with 141,500 tons. Actual corn exports for the week totaled 1.56 million metric tons, with Mexico, Japan and Colombia as the primary destinations.

Wheat net sales reached 377,500 metric tons for the 2025/2026 marketing year, up 24 percent from the previous week but down 12 percent from the prior four-week average. The Philippines was the top wheat buyer with 186,000 metric tons, followed by Nigeria with 104,300 tons and Mexico with 96,000 tons.

Soybean sales totaled 923,000 metric tons, with Egypt purchasing 228,400 tons to lead all buyers. Mexico followed with 195,400 tons and Spain with 179,400 tons. Soybean exports for the week reached 837,100 tons, with Spain, Bangladesh and Mexico as the primary destinations.

Cotton bookings showed significant growth, with upland cotton net sales of 186,100 running bales, up 44 percent from the previous week and 13 percent above the four-week average. Vietnam was the top cotton buyer with 77,000 running bales, followed by India with 41,800 bales and Malaysia with 22,000 bales.

Livestock product exports also showed strength, with beef net sales reaching 15,800 metric tons, up 31 percent from the previous week. South Korea led beef purchases with 8,000 tons. Pork sales totaled 22,000 tons, up 27 percent week-over-week, with Japan and Mexico as the leading buyers at 6,600 and 6,200 tons respectively.

Other notable sales included 100,500 metric tons of sorghum, primarily to Pakistan, and 22,400 metric tons of soybean oil to South Korea.

The report also noted that 148,971 metric tons of corn and 22,000 metric tons of soybean oil were sold to unknown destinations and South Korea, respectively, under the daily sales reporting system.
